For the art auction, Karen created: Out of the Ashes
Karen explains her inspiration behind this work:
Out of the Ashes is a statement of hope me. Major life changes and illness have been the catalyst for change. This piece represents the concept that , out of destruction and the lowest moments in our lives, growth is possible, beauty is possible.”

Out of the Ashes is on display until April 12th at O’Mally Kourt Fudgery 55 King Street West, Brockville.

Meet CHAIR-ity Artist: Karen Fisher

Karen Fisher is an emerging artist who found the passion of painting in her retirement years. Karen is still finding her style but has settled on the medium of acrylic paint. She continues to take courses and participate in local fundraisers and events.

Karen was excited to participate in CHAIR-ity because she has “a ‘thing’ about chairs and have viewed them as a decor accessory for years. That very seamlessly flows into chairs as an artwork. The piece I have produced is just such a chair, being neutral in colour and simple in design, however, it makes an impactful statement on its own.”

Karen’s creation for the auction is titled: Harlequin and is on display until April 12th at The River Lily Boutique , 53 King Street West, Brockville.

For the art auction, Laurie created: An Adirondack Garden
This is what she had to say about her creation:
Why do we have to limit ourselves to what a chair is, it’s design or function? By taking this Adirondack chair – a classic outdoor garden décor object – disassembling and repurposing it – it now becomes a garden unto itself and an homage to a blossoming floral environment.”

An Adirondack Garden is on display at Hang Ups Creative Picture Framing, 24 St Andrew Street, Brockville, until April 13th.

Lise was born, educated, and married in Ottawa, but has been a Brockvillian for over 32 years. She is a kindergarten teacher, a crafter, a quilter, a goddess-doll-maker. She is the mother of the world’s four most wonderful young men, and as such is most undoubtedly the queen of her castle.

For the art auction, Lise created: Queen of the Castle
She explains her inspiration:
“Every queen needs her throne, and this is a very magical one. It stems from my preference for bright, bold colours, of working with funky fabrics, as well as my love of all things whimsical. And while overseeing one’s kingdom, well, wine and whimsy are a queen’s best friends!”

Queen of the Castle is on display at The Sleepless Monkey Cafe & Tea Room until April 12th.

About her process, Maureen explains:
I use artistic language to open the field of perception, getting to the essence of things. Since colours resonate with their matching musical scales, I listen to the colours as I paint. This helps me distil outer surfaces into simple forms that cross the boundaries of the imagination.”

Meet CHAIR-ity 2018 Artist: Meaghan Stevenson

Meaghan was born and raised in the Brockville area, and was encouraged in her artistic talents from a young age by both her parents. Meaghan explores different mediums and subjects though her art, but always as a means of understanding the greater impact of society on the individual and the cultural collective.

Learn more about Meaghan on her webpage: https://fragments2018.wixsite.com/fragments/meaghan-stevenson-1

For the art auction, Meaghan created: light work

“This piece is meant to emphasize the idea that “it takes a village” and “no man is an island”. This chair was planned and thought out by me, but was brought through to creation by friends and family. Culturally, we work best when we look out for each other, and both the individual and the society thrive when we are encouraged and loved.”

See examples of Paul’s work on his website: paulmatte.squarespace.com

Paul’s creation for the CHAIR-ity Art Auction is titled: A Photographic Journal

As Paul explains: “While studying my large collection of photographic memorabilia, I realized that combining photography’s past with the present into a chair could be a good way to help viewers realize how quickly photography has developed (pun intended) and how important the past is to creativity today.”

A Photographic Journal is on display at Richard’s Coffeehouse until April 13th
